Most of the Refereum team comes from a game development background. The whole reason we started building Refereum was born out of frustrations with releasing games in today’s market. Paying up to $10 for an install of your game makes user acquisition out of reach for most game developers. With Refereum, we’re building a platform that lowers the playing field so game developers of all sizes and income can start reaching bigger audiences, no matter their budget.
I started making games professionally 14 years ago and things have changed drastically in that time. Gone are the days of publishers being the only main way for games to be released, however with that comes the issue of standing out in a crowded market. We love that anyone with a copy of Unity can start making games, it means that market places are full of great games, many of which don’t receive the recognition they deserve.
While the games industry has evolved over the past decade, marketing and engagement have not. Streaming and influencers are one of the best ways game developers can reach large audiences, but there’s currently no system to facilitate this. Most deals are ad hoc in nature and unfortunately there are a lot of scammers out there trying to steal CD keys. Refereum solves these issues by providing game developers a secure way of working with influencers to get their game out there. Most importantly, Refereum cuts out the middlemen that take large cuts when deals are made and lets game developers connect directly with influencers.
Refereum is not just about connecting game developers with streamers, we also help you connect with players. Players don’t need to stream to influence those in their social circles and we want to reward them for this. Refereum opens up new avenues and incentives for players to share your game with their friends. As well as this, Refereum can be used to reward players in game for performing certain activities. This can include reaching the top of a daily leaderboard, beating a boss or any other positive behaviour we want to encourage players to perform. The possibilities are endless and we’re excited to see what game developers come up with.
Are you a game developer that wants to reach a bigger audience? Drop us a line and let us know what you’d like to see built on the Refereum platform. Let us know what game you are working on as we’d love to get in touch and see how we can work together.
