Building Your Ecommerce Brand: Vital Do’s And Don’ts

Trying to figure out what works and what doesn’t is a lot of trial and error.

That’s why we here at Refersion are breaking down some of the most important things you need to keep in mind when trying to build up your brand.

It’s less confusing than it looks. We promise.

1. DO keep it simple

It may be tantalizing to put as much information as possible on your new ecommerce site, but you need to keep that impulse in check. Keeping things clean and uncluttered are key. You don’t need to squeeze every bit of info onto your page. What you do need to focus on is creating an easy-to-understand, visually-appealing experience that won’t overwhelm or frustrate your audience.

2. DON’T try to target everyone

It’s important to find your niche and work on perfecting your product and marketing for that group. Don’t try to appeal to everyone. You need to know your audience and adapt your brand personality accordingly.

3. DO build a list

Building up an email list will allow you to nurture relationships and send interested prospects new offers.

In fact, before you even launch your website and start accepting orders you should be capturing email addresses. Directing people to a simple landing page that’s designed to capture emails is a great way to gauge how much interest is in your product. It’s also beneficial to have a large email list before the official launch because you’ll have a built-in group of people to advertise to — people who have already demonstrated an interest in purchasing your product.

4. DON’T ignore customer service

If you want to a create a loyal customer base, you can’t afford to be a mysterious, silent entity when it come to customer service.

That’s not to say you need to get bogged down with responding to every random comment or pointless complaint — but you DO need to show your customers that you’re listening, you care, and you’re always working to improve the experience.

It’s also not a bad idea to pay attention to suggestions. These are, after all, the people who have actually bought your product — you may find some worthwhile insight.
