A poem by Belinda Takyi

At the University of Life, adversity frequents the halls
Indiscriminately looking and seeking the weak to wreak havoc
Intentionally choosing the one that cares to sit at the worry well
Burdens barely down and breath yet to be deeper in enough
It appears and offloads on top of an already heavy-laden heart.

Heaped with fear, the heart begins to sink, and the mind boggles
Joy disappears, and gloom replaces the vacuum it leaves behind.
But I pick myself up and face the fear with faith and fortitude
I overcame the burden to realise I was a warrior all along.
A warrior not by choice but a warrior made out of worry

It disappears but returns to test the water and sense the scene.
Only to find the heart that sank has been anchored with plans to probe
The interrogation begins, and the worry is found wanting with no basis to linger
Tries to persist but only loosely, with nothing to grip and no grounds to stay
The amplified voice it carried before now fades into a whisper unheard

Where fear stood, and anxiety occupied stand courage and boldness.
The mind is filled and is now a mining site for wisdom and understanding.
Remaining in the void means depleting its power and strength.
Now unstable in its ways, it packs the pain and prepares to leave hastily.
Then I look and remember that the one who stood afraid is now a worry warrior..
