YES, I lost my life in the cheese aisle!

Death didn’t come about due to an auto accident, nor covid, nor cancer or pneumonia, nor through any other honorable way of dying.

Death came as I was in the cheese aisle!

No, I wasn’t run over by a cart pushed by another customer or one of those huge carts used to re-stock shelves.

There are so many ways to die but my story shows that death can come from any unusual and unlikely source.

WHAT HAPPENED, you ask!

Well, a heavy set older man was using an electric cart for his grocery shopping. You know the kind…the customer sits, holds onto the handlebars and drives.

I was walking behind him with my small grocery cart, keeping a safe distance so I wouldn’t crowd him or make him feel like I was hurrying him along.

All of a sudden he and his huge, heavy cart went BACKWARDS without any of those beeps going off to tell a person they were BACKING UP. Equipment failure meant TROUBLE for me!

Too late I realized…. You can fill in the details after that — the crash, the ambulance, the hearse.

Finally, I was away from all of those huge pieces of dangerous machinery. Instead I welcomed the quiet whoosh of wings!!!

So, the next time you are in the grocery store, smile, knowing that you are safe because you KNOW what can happen next.
