THE DRIVER’S TEST
From the Lives of ScareLady and Baggy Carrot
Eleven years before our story, ScareLady bought herself a used car. Upon purchase, she drove it home, parked it in her barn and never thought about it again except for Hank checking it out yearly.
Then…
Baggy Carrot received a notice that he needed to have his driver’s license renewed. It was almost time….
He was OLD but not THAT old to have to worry whether he could pass the test.
Yet he found himself tossing and turning at night, dreaming of the test, running through every possible scenario, wondering about his weak areas.
Would he be able to parallel park… stop behind the stop sign where he should…hear the railroad crossing bells in time?
On the day of the driver’s test, Baggy went out to his barn and hooked up Old Bessie to the buckboard. He was ready for the test!
What? Upon arrival, he learned that he was expected to drive a CAR for the test.
Back home he and Bessie went.
Then he remembered Scare’s car that she’d parked in the barn. She said OK to him using it. Out to the barn he went with her following close behind.
Baggy slid across the seat behind the wheel. Scare handed him the key. Into the ignition it went. The car started right up!
Baggy, never having driven a CAR before, could be heard loudly exclaiming, “If I’d known it was this easy, I would have been driving a car all of these years!”
Needless to say, Baggy Carrot passed his driver’s test that day, even surprising himself.
Bessie thoroughly enjoyed her day in the pasture.
