Peace
We Don’t Need to be Shaken
We Can Be At Peace
I don’t know about you right now, but I feel SHAKEN!
When I look all around our world, I see war threatening to spread and consume lands and peoples. I see widespread weather disturbances causing hurricanes, floods, mud slides with loss of life and property.
Yes, in my little corner of the world, it is peaceful and the skies are sunny and blue. If I look, however, a bit more in depth, I see a presidential election looming. What if the ‘wrong’ candidate wins! What will my world look like then?
There are strikes looming in the future at the ports along the coastline of my country with possible shortages of food and products ahead. What will that mean in my own kitchen and bathroom as food and supplies decrease? The grocery store aisles may become bare as they were during covid. We all remember those days and prefer NOT to re-live them. We LIKE the abundance we have at our fingertips.
We wonder how world events will shape the availability of gas for our cars and the ability to move about freely, hoping to get to and from work safely. Will we have enough fuel to heat our homes in the upcoming winter?
I am shaken! There is much to worry about!
When I remember, however, that God is in control of the entire universe, I begin to settle my heart. I remember God’s promise:
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Matthew 28:29, KJV
Even when we are in danger from all sides, we know that He is King of the Universe. He is in our midst!
We are also told in scripture:
That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word…. 2 Thessalonians 2:2, KJV
I am also told by Jesus:
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. John 14:27, KJV
It may be time, in these tumultuous days, to turn off the news sources, social media and even music. Listen to the silence.
When I listen to God’s still, small voice speaking loudly above the panic of my own mind, peace replaces the panic. I am no longer in the position to be shaken. As my mind settles on who God is and what He does, peace settles all around me — my mind is no longer shaken as I cling to God and His promises to me… His promises to all of us.
