Creation of Eve. Michelangelo Buonarroti

Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken. John 10:34–35.

The above scripture verse has always meant a lot to me. Within the soul of the artist is a drive to create. Michaelangelo knew as much. We see this great artist’s work and we can’t help but be amazed. And why not? It almost seems like he’s a creator. There is something spiritual about Michelangelo’s work. Something god-like. It’s as though the man wasn’t a part of this earth, but of a higher realm. But such was not the case.

Who was Michelangelo?

Michelangelo was born March 6th, 1475 in Tuscany, under a low ranking civil servant. He was also given a ridiculously long name. Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni. What a mouthful! Anyway, sure his family came from a noble line from the Guelph family faction, but he grew up noble in name only. Aside from that, his family was poor.

Michelangelo worked diligently. There is a quote attributed to him that reads

If people knew how hard I worked to gain my mastery, it wouldn’t seem so wonderful at all.
