I have talked about the virtues of journaling in the past and have heard countless times that it is difficult to keep up with and to know what to write about. Now, there is a solution for that. In fact, there are a few. I came across Reflectly while scrolling through Instagram and instantly felt the need to check it out. Reflectly is a great gateway to journaling for people who are prone to forgetting or don’t know where to start. It has a simple user interface, it sends you reminders to journal, tracks your mood, and gives you prompts and quotes to get you thinking. It is not specifically a gratitude journalling app, so if that is what you are looking for you won’t find it here, but it is great for getting the ball rolling in the journaling world.

Reflecty is different than other journaling apps out there. It allows you to both write your own answers or select from their programmed answers. It follows a standard format, asking how you felt mostly throughout the day, asking you to explain why you felt that way, and what could have made it better, and then asking a question of the day. I find that other apps don’t allow you to explore the causes of feelings in quite the same way and that exploration is so helpful when dealing with anxiety or other mental health issues. It will also remind you daily to fill in your journal so you don’t forget!

The prompts and quotes given are thoughtful and you can skip them if you feel they don’t apply or you don’t want to answer. It’s a very unobtrusive app that allows you to do what feels right to you.and what you have time for. I find I am far more likely to use this app when I am in a rush rather than bust out my journal and fill it in for that day.

Reflectly also keeps track of the data you give it so you can look back and see how your mood has changed over the month. One of the things that helped me identify my triggers was looking back through my journal and seeing what I had listed on days when I was feeling poorly. This app compiles that data in an easy to see chart and lets you see when you’ve felt your best and worst.

Reflecty is available for iPhone and Andriod and while it has its bugs, they are constantly working to update and make things better for users. Check it out here and follow them on Facebook and Instagram for a daily dose of uplifting content!
