If you are in the software development industry, you are probably doing one or more of these; day-to-day coding, overseeing software programming, software testing, code review, and debugging.

I’ve spent some time gathering my colleagues’ top actively used browser extensions. I then collated and summarized these 10 cool extensions that I think you should know about. A couple of these are already well-known but I’m pretty sure that most of these will be new to you.

In this article, I’ll share with you our top 10 actively used browser extensions that will make your day-to-day tasks easier and get more things done.

10. Behind the Overlay

This is a simple yet useful extension that lets you close any overlay on any website with a single click or by using shortcut keys. With Behind The Overlay, you can quick-close obnoxious overlays begging you to sign up or whatever modals and overlays make you feel annoyed.

9. Fake Filler

Fake Filler is a time-saving extension that is useful for developers and QA testers who work with forms; as it eliminates the need for manually entering values in fields. With a single click, forms will be filled with random data.

8. JSON Formatter

Whether you like it or not, JSON is one of the most heavily used formats in software development. This JSON Formatter extension makes JSON readable.

7. React Developer Tools

It makes sense that this extension is in our top 10 as our core products are using React as our main frontend library. We use React Developer Tools to inspect and debug the React components on the web.

6. Wappalyzer

If you are tech-savvy and always curious about the technologies being used, then Wappalyzer is for you! It’s a web tech profiler that shows you what the website is built on.

5. Requestly

This extension is very handy and has saved us a couple of hours to mock error responses. It’s a developer tool for frontend developers & QAs to debug web applications; having the ability to intercept, modify & debug network requests. No more forcing your endpoints to trigger 400 errors just to test a specific scenario.

4. Scribe

Scribe is a great extension to quickly craft step-by-step guides that you want to show to your users or colleagues. Now you can spend less time explaining and more time doing.

3. Authenticator

This extension generates two-factor authentication codes in your browser. You’ll probably waste a minute of your time unlocking your phone, opening the Authenticator app, getting the code, and typing it back into the browser. With the Authenticator, you just need to click to copy and paste. Now that’s a time saver!

2. Awesome Screenshot and Screen Recorder

This extension is one of the best screen recorder, capture, and screenshot tools to record screens. We use this tool to capture screenshots and record issues which we will then attach to the Jira Issue.

1. Grammarly

By far the most popular and heavily used extension for us as it helps to improve grammar, and clarity, and fix spelling mistakes. I even use Grammarly in writing this article.
