Can the Mystery of Goodness Awaken Hope in a Broken World?
Why embracing the mystery of goodness can restore peace and courage in an age of fear
It seems that evil has a way of unsettling the human heart. We name it in the news, fear it in our neighborhoods, and struggle with its presence in our prayers. What if we paused to consider that the remedy to evil is not explanation, but awe?
The problem of evil has baffled mankind since Eden; perhaps because it can only be approached through facing the mystery of good, and we do not like to acknowledge that good is a mystery. — D.M. Dooling
The Dooling quote is a great reminder that good is a mystery and one that requires its own humility and wonder. Yes, evil exists in the world, but so does good, all the time. We just have to look for it … and be it.
Let’s face it, the news reminds us every day, too many times per day, that evil exists. When we are reminded of evil and darkness, we are also invited to face the radiance of goodness that continues to exist despite the loom and gloom.
