Does the thought of repetitive work or having a routine sound boring to you?

We start a business we always wanted, go to the gym, or cook a healthy meal because starting something seems exciting and fun. But when it has to be done every day, we give up because it feels boring, even when we know it’s the right thing to do.

The path to personal growth lies in mastering the mundane tasks, not chasing the extraordinary.

In almost everything we do, we’re always looking for the next exciting thing. Because of this, we miss the power of accepting that we need to do boring work repeatedly. This is the only way to build discipline and courage on the path to personal growth.

This is why most people are unable to stick with their planned routines. It’s easy to fall off the path of growth in life when we are constantly seeking excitement.

This is why you find routines boring and hard because you have to do the same things every day.

You also know routines work. Look at any person who is succeeding in any aspect of life, wealth, health, or relationship. They all have a solid routine as the backbone for their success, and surprisingly, the more you stick to it, the more you find yourself improving without even realising it.

It is the only way you will ever find growth in life, or else you’ll keep failing. There is no way around it.

Mastering boring work will unlock growth

Every day, I’m asked this question—how am I able to eat the same diet every day? Isn’t that boring?

I’m often labelled as boring for doing so, but who cares? I am able to achieve what I want. People who label others are hiding their insecurities and lack of courage to take action by putting such labels on others. While they are busy doing so, I will get the shit done. It’s the only way of being consistent, and with that consistency, I achieve what I want.

You will be labelled as boring when you stick to your plan.

If you want to master your mind, you’ll have to become addicted to hard and boring work. Because if not, then you will be driven by feelings, only putting effort when it feels right. Just a few are willing to do the hard work regardless of how they feel. This discipline will set you apart.

Choosing to do boring, hard tasks is prioritizing long-term growth over instant pleasures.

Eating the same diet every day is boring.

Meditating every day is boring.

Reading every day is boring.

Going to the gym every day is boring.

Writing every day is boring.

Going to sleep at the same time every day is boring.

Following a routine is boring.

The key to being consistent and paving the route for your growth is to accept the fact that most boring chores are quite hard at their foundation.

I listened to a podcast of an Indian cricketer, Virat Kohli, who eats the same meal every day at the same time. Well, this makes sense now. Doing the same tasks frees up your cognitive overload from everyday thinking of what to do and when to do it. It also structures your day, saves energy and time, maximises productivity, and gives us a sense of control.

The only difference between an average person and a high-achiever is the ability to do things that generate results over and over again, regardless of feelings. Taking the action you need to take, even when it’s boring and hard, is what differentiates you from others.

If you keep hopping from one thing to another, chasing excitement, you will never be able to stay consistent.

John C. Maxwell once said, “You will never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.”

Whether you’re an entrepreneur trying to build a business, a student trying to do well in school, or an athlete trying to be the best, a well-defined routine can make all the difference.

It’s easy to give up on anything you’re trying to achieve when you don’t exactly know what to do, when to do it, and how much to do. Routine helps with this, and the more precise your routines, the more difficult it becomes to give up.

Doing boring tasks involves repetition, which is difficult. But repetition brings consistency, which fuels improvement in all aspects of life.

Embrace the boring work. That is when you find success and love for yourself.

This week, I read an amazing piece by Linda Lang. This was an eye-opener for me as we often identify clarity with knowing something, but it’s more than that. It’s about peace and surrendering without resistance.

She explains beautifully how we can achieve clarity by simply flowing with the energy of the universe.
