I’m an overthinker, and it has taken a toll on my mind, body, and soul. Over the years, I have had to learn how to stop overthinking so I can get out of bed. Seriously.

Are you an overthinker, too? Do you have moments when you feel trapped inside your mind, replaying conversations, second-guessing your choices, and worrying? Oh, Lord, the worrying!

Here’s what I have learned from the exhaustion of overthinking. I feel disconnected from the peace that is already present within me.

Within you, there is a stillness and a sanctuary to which you can retreat at any time and be yourself.
— Hermann Hesse

Let’s get something straight. My mind isn’t the enemy. It’s just overworked, always searching for safety and control. It’s like a car that is overheating. Or worse, a car engine that has caught on fire. Stillness, however, is a quiet awareness that sits beneath the surface of all the noise, its hand extended to us, offering a way home.
