After living in Mumbai for 32 years, it has become evident that time is money. No wonder people here are always in a rush. Everyone walks with a purpose. You can see from their expressions that their thoughts are jumbled as they reflect on their tasks and responsibilities.

A great way to understand the sentiment of the people in this city is to travel by public transport. You will see people from all walks of life, from the poorest households to the richest, in their best attire. You will see budding youth with ideas fueling their will to make it big in the city, as well as those who have lived quite a few years and realised that patience and grit are two ingredients for survival needed to fulfill your dreams in this city.

I travel by metro every day to work. As I step on the escalator that leads me to a security check, there is a woman behind the curtain who frisks me for security purposes. As I enter this enclosed space, I have become familiar with one female security check personnel. I remember her so well because of the smile she carries while she frisks you. What lights her up is when I wish her good morning.
