Have you noticed that most people are addicted to linear progress? You know … the kind that is measured in upward charts and climbed ladders? I dare to whisper an unpopular thought: ssshhhh … 🫢

Spiritual progress does not move in a straight line.

In other words, a + b ≠ c.

Perhaps it’s better to share it this way:

a) Sally gets a job.
b) Sally gets promoted to a high-level executive position.
c) Now, Sally is happy.

What’s wrong with that picture? Does anyone see it besides me?

My husband, Chris B. / My Soulbriety, fell in love with the writings of St. Teresa of Avila, author of Interior Castle, which lays out what she defines as seven spiritual mansions that every believer of God goes through or can go through. It would be easy to say that the spiritual journey is one that you enter through Door 1, then move to Door 2, and so on until you get to Door 7, but that’s not how the spiritual journey works.
