Regen’s Testnet roadmap

This blog contains an overview of past testnets (run in 2019 and 2020) and our final testnet being run in Feb of 2021

In the coming months we will be running three successive incentivized testnets to accomplish the following goals:

  1. Grow the capacity of our validator pool to perform upgrades, participate in governance, and successfully run and troubleshoot the Regen Ledger blockchain, which is based on the CosmosSDK.
  2. Battle test Regen Ledger, Regen Network’s public Proof-of-Stake blockchain. This means we will be running load testing, testing key functionality like roll-backs and rapid upgrades, testing application-specific functions like token issuance, exchange and running Regen Ledger as a zone in the Game of Zones with our validator pool.
  3. Engage and grow the community of Regen Network validators, developers and delegators through active participation in building an open, public protocol dedicated to a data and settlement layer for ecosystem service markets and ecological state data.

Context:

In Q3 and Q4 of last year we ran the successful Regen Test-Net 1001. This was very useful and we grew our community capacity in several key areas. One of the major takeaways was the need to improve documentation and communication in order to manage a complex community coordination process such as an incentivized testnet.

In this blog we outline the coming three incentivized testnets broadly.

Check out this post to learn the details of the first and imminently-launching Regen Network Altgradigon incentivized testnet:

Please note that, in creating a community run public network, there is the need for some flexibility, so we may announce other testnet opportunities or evolve dates to better suit the needs of the community.

We are especially keen to integrate and host COSMWASM tests, and participate in the Game of Zones, and so will rearrange our plans to facilitate these two key community supporting tests. Our third and final incentivized testnet will focus on creation and exchange of ecosystem service credits (likely carbon) and represent real world pilots currently underway.

Regen Network Testnet 4000: Aplikiĝo Testnet

Focus: Application specific testing and simulation of ecosystem service credit creation and trading with production ready MVP blockchain

Estimated Dates: Feb 8th —March 15th 2021

Total points to be allocated: 1800

Gentx Due: TBA

We will have a working fork of Lunie at https://lunie.regen.network, a working Aneka block explorer, and a fork of Big Dipper at at https://bigdipper.regen.network/

The total points to be allocated for the three testnets outlined above will be 3,700 points. These will be totaled with the Regen 1000 testnet scores and serve as the ratio to split the up to 1,000,000 XRN tokens allocated to our validator community process through the incentivized testnets we run (1% of total supply).

Legal: KYC/AML

Our blockchain, and testnet are both permissionless, however, in order to qualify to receive tokens from participation in our incentive program, we require KYC/AML process in order to be compliant. We have options for participants in most countries to participate (sorry to those countries that currently have economic actions form the US, or anti-money laundering blocks). All you have to do is go through a simple process to see if you qualify. US validators are welcome!
