Canada — second largest country in the world with more lakes than the rest of the world’s lakes combined. Add to that snow, bears and a growing fintech community … Rehive spent the past 2 weeks in this beautiful country on a roadshow visiting several cities connecting, learning and sharing.

Rehive is a platform and toolkit for building fintech apps, so you don’t have to start from scratch. We’re building a community of developers, entrepreneurs and businesses where you can learn more, make friends and work together to solve real problems in finance.

The roadshow kicked off with a fintech workshop in Calgary with Rehive sharing on some of the toughest challenges faced in Africa when trying to solve financial problems. These include corruption, education, culture, cost of data and wealth distribution to name a few. The University of Calgary (UofC) hosted us next for a similar workshop aimed at students and faculty staff. Calgary is a rapidly growing city and although the weather may be cold, the locals certainly aren’t. CED went out of their way in letting Calgary know Rehive is in town.

“The time that our groups spent engaging with the Rehive platform highlighted its flexibility, utility and ease of use. What excited me was how Rehive saves developers significant effort by allowing them to focus upon developing the more value-add pieces of their solution instead of spending effort developing foundational pieces. Kudos Rehive!” ~ Terry Ross (MBA, PhD Research Partnerships Specialist, Schulich School of Engineering, University of Calgary)

ATB Financial is one of Canada’s most innovative banks exploring alternative financial solutions using blockchain technology, data science and robotics to name a few. We hosted a crypto workshop with ATB team members explaining key concepts on managing crypto assets and configuring a crypto wallet on Rehive.

Toronto, home of the Blue Jays was up next. We had the opportunity to meet with some innovative startups and enterprises looking to disrupt financial services in Canada. We presented another crypto workshop and will look to be adding some exciting blockchain services to Rehive’s marketplace in the near future.

While clear regulatory frameworks for financial services remains an ongoing global project, we have learnt that Canada offers a warm climate for innovation. We’ll be sharing more on Rehive’s efforts to expand our footprint into North America.
