Our first Rehive hackathon in Johannesburg was a great learning experience and a big success. These teams really gave their best and came up with some exciting projects built on Rehive.

This event is one of the first BCX sponsored hackathons, the next one will be in August 2018. It was held at the Alphacode offices in Sandton.

The winning teams; Skoloto and CodeGang.

Congratulations to our winners:

(1) Skoloto

Skoloto is the first peer-to-peer lending platform built on Rehive, and this one really sets the bar very high. A good credit score is hard to have especially as a young person. What if you can prove you are credit worthy by lending to the people you know?

Skoloto has an overdraft facility and rewards a user for repaying his/her loan back before its due.

This team consisting of members Khabubu Phathutshedzo, Khabubu Ndivhuwo and Mbodi Rendani had a great pitch, product and tech stack and deserve the first place prize.

(2) CodeGang

Fresh off the boat from attending another hackathon the previous night, the guys from CodeGang were ready to pick up the pace to finish off their donation project: Usizo Humane Donations.

Usizo is an inspiring project which provides aid to terminally ill persons in hospitals.

With anonymous donation, the money you donate goes to the hospital fees of the patients and the identity of the patients is only revealed after donation to prevent discrimination.

Usizo means ‘help’ or ‘aid’ in Zulu and was built by Thoriso Motaung, Zenande Godongwana, Mthokozisi Mohaule and Sanele Sibiya. Congratualtions on winning second place!

A big thank you to all the other teams that entered their projects and also to our sponsor BCX.

Keep your eye out for our next Cape Town hackathon at Flash in July and the next BCX hackathon in Johannesburg in August.
