If you’ve ever hired software developers, you know how challenging it can be. Salaries and employment benefits provided by technology giants make it hard for growing companies to compete for talent locally.

Fortunately, while talent is distributed more or less equally, competition for great software developers varies. Distance has long ceased to be a problem; companies are free to tap into the global pool of talented developers no matter where they are, be it in other cities or even in other countries.

Engaging remote developers is a smart move, and there are four reasons why Ukraine should be on your “A” list.

1. Availability

According to various estimates, there are over 100 000 IT specialists in Ukraine (leading industry media in Ukraine DOU.ua estimates this number to be as high as 125 000). This number is growing as as young Ukrainians looking for financial stability and independence flock to IT, engineering, and other STEM fields.

2. Ability

Most Ukrainian software engineers work for outsourcing companies, as freelancers, or join Ukrainian offices of international companies. This gives them plenty of opportunities to practice English, master Agile, and gain valuable experience working in geographically distributed teams.

3. Accessibility

Ukraine is just one hour ahead of most European countries (two hours ahead of the UK), allowing developers to work on the same schedule as their clients.

The time difference with New York is a bit larger, allowing three to four hours of overlap, but this brings an additional benefit: when you come to work in the morning, your remote developers already have results to show.

Traveling is easy as well. EU and US citizens don’t need a visa to enter Ukraine (as opposed to Russia or Belarus). Additionally, most Ukrainian IT hubs are well connected to European capitals; flying from Berlin to Lviv takes less than two hours, while flights from London are just under three hours.

4. Affordability

Last but not least, the lower cost of living in Ukraine allows developers to maintain a great quality of life while charging less, compared to developers with similar skills in New York, London, or Berlin.

There you have it: Ukraine offers an abundance of brilliant software developers who are available, more than able, accessible, and affordable. Getting your software development needs met has never been easier, and we’re here to help: https://reintech.io/
