Hey Re-inventors!

Have you been struggling to build a positive personality?

We all know the numerous benefits of being positive — reduced stress levels, lower blood pressure, happiness, better relationships and what not.

But we are often struck with the question: “How do we build a positive personality?”

I was in the same place some time ago. I read end number of articles on the internet but found that each article had around 10 steps to build a positive personality.

I knew I couldn’t master all of them at once, but then I did not know which step will produce the best results.

Then one day, I was continuously pondering and I realized that it is not necessary in any situation that if ONE PERSON WINS, THE OTHER WILL BE A LOSER.

WE HAVE TO THINK WIN-WIN!!

Then I thought that this might as well be the one of the most important steps towards building a positive personality.

Think about this, we humans have always helped each other which is the reason for our existence. If this would not have been true then we would have been dead considering the numerous powers that we all possess. In today’s world when everyone is trying to win at the cost of others, someone has to think for the opposite party as well.

According to Stephen Covey, “Many people think in terms of either/or: either you’re nice or you’re tough. Win-win requires that you be both. It is a balancing act between courage and consideration. To go for win-win, you not only have to be emphatic, but you also have to be confident. You not only have to be considerate and sensitive, you also have to be brave. To do that — to achieve that balance between courage and consideration — is the essence of real maturity and is fundamental to win-win”

I have a story from one of my favorite books, “You Can Win”, by Shiv Khera that will perfectly describe what a win-win situation looks like:

A man dies and St Peter(One of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ) asked him if he would like to go to heaven or hell. The man asked if he could see both before deciding. St Peter took him to hell first. There the man saw a big hall containing a long table laden with many kinds of food. He also saw rows of people with sad faces. They looked starved and there was no laughter. And he observed one more thing: Their hands were tied to a four-foot long forks and knives and they were trying to get the food from the center of the table to put into their mouths. But they couldn’t.

Then St Peter took him to see heaven. There he saw a big hall with a long table, with lots of food. He noticed rows of people on both sides of the table with their hands tied to four-foot forks and knives also. But here people were laughing and were well fed and healthy-looking. The people realizing that they could not feed themselves with four feet forks, were feeding one another across the table. The result was happiness, enjoyment and gratification because they were not thinking of themselves alone; they were thinking win-win. The same is true of our lives. When we serve our customers, our families, our employers and employees, we automatically win.

This story has taught me one of the most important lessons of my life.

I hope you all too learn that the secret to happiness and positivity is not winning at the cost of others, because if you do that, you may as well lose.
