What Happens When You Write Everyday
The past 87 days of my life have been phenomenal but a bit exhaustive. I never imagined that I would be able to write everyday for such a long period of time.
But I new that I had to do something different. I had to differentiate myself from the crowd and that will continue to be the reason behind most of my actions.
Here are the top lessons that I learned from writing everyday:
Mind is a muscle
You can improve your creativity by working on it everyday. It is not stagnant or constant and can be enhanced. But it takes work to be creative. Once you start writing everyday, your creative juices will start to flow like crazy. But you have to work hard and persist. Even if you write 100 words everyday, that is okay. Even I started with 200–300 words but now I can easily write a 1000 -1500 words everyday even before most of the people wake up. I had to train myself and take consistent action to get up at 5 am and write everyday. You can do it too, with a little determination.
You’ll start finding ideas to write about everywhere
Whether you are watching TV, commuting, sitting in a coffee shop, sitting at the park, working out or taking a bath. You’ll start to get ideas everywhere. They may be ideas that can never be executed, but at least 1 in ten ideas is a good one and that translates into my post for the next day. From my personal experience, I can tell you that once you stimulate your mind, ideas will surely come sooner or later
You can listen more to yourself
You will not always find ideas from external sources. What happens during such times? You introspect and find things that have been going on in your mind since a few days. I have done this time and time again. In your daily life you experience a lot of things and they remain on the back of your mind until they disappear. So when you write daily, you grab each and every thought you have and see if something valuable can be extracted from that idea.
Better expression of ideas, both while writing and speaking
When you write daily or frequently, you always keep in mind the interests of your readers. Keeping readers interested in your content is difficult. Thus while writing articles you start seeing things from their point of view because at the end of the day, producing is of little value when there is no one to consume.
Due to this you develop the ability to express your feelings in a better and structured way which will be appreciated by your readers or your listeners
You are always in the analytical mode
As a person who writes everyday, I am always in pursuit of excellence. I am always analysing. I try to figure out what do people like reading and whether I can do it for them. While reading top stories on medium I am not reading to consume but I am reading to learn what those writers did that I couldn’t. And apart from that I read to connect. I always tell someone that their article is good if I think it is good. If I have a different point of view, I comment on the post and tell it. This takes me to the next point…
You can connect with new people
Since I have started writing, I have got to know various people from around the world. I may not know them in person, but I know them through social media which gives me enough insights into what they’re interested in and what they like. I can learn from what they do and I always try to build good relationships along the way. (Twitter is great for that matter)
It teaches you persistence
Writing everyday is not easy. Somedays it feels like you just can’t write, some days you’ll be too tired and exhausted to write, you will also feel that no ideas are coming to your mind but remember one thing, YOU CAN NEVER WRITE ABOUT EVERYTHING. So start with a belief, that ideas are waiting for you to be discovered. Don’t think that there is nothing left for you to write. You can write everyday for the rest of your life if you want to, but you just have to persevere. Each and every night I try to think about the topic for a post and 90% of the time I cannot come up with ideas. Yesterday night I woke up twice because my mind was unsettled by the fact that I have nothing to write about. But as soon as I got up and went to the bathroom to brush my teeth, it clicked! I got my idea and here I am writing this post.
Don’t take it too hard and don’t stress about it, you can do it if you really want to. Ideas will come sooner or later but make sure that you grab them and execute upon them.
