Reitium Advisor Spotlight: Gregory Peacock

Each week, the REITIUM team will be highlighting one of our fantastic advisors to tell their story and how they became involved with our company.
This week, I had the pleasure of chatting with an old colleague of mine, Gregory Peacock, the Distributed Ledger Advisor for REITIUM. Gregory entered the blockchain space in 2014, and has worked in multiple facets as an advisor, educator and founder, to further the industry he so strongly believes in. With more than 20 years experience working in the tech industry, Gregory is a great asset to our team.
Amber: Can you tell me a little bit about your background?
Gregg: I attended Queen’s University where I did my Bachelors of Science in Engineering Physics. Following university, I founded my first company to help small business enter the digital age. Over the last 12 years, I have worked with both enterprise and Vancouver-based startups with their product development and project management needs.
From 2014 onwards, I have played an active role in the blockchain industry as an investor and educator. Over the past year I have advised on several projects such as Reitium, Cosyndicate and the Ultraviolet Protocol. In addition to advising, I am the Co-Founder and CEO of NodeAI, a crypto-financial services platform for the banking industry.
Amber: What initially inspired you to learn about blockchain?
Gregg: I’ve been participating in the blockchain ecosystem since 2013, starting with Bitcoin 101 Meetups. I don’t recall how I first encountered Bitcoin back in 2013 but, once I realized that this technology could be used to transform the world into a place of equality and true global inclusion, I was hooked. I strongly believe in the power of the distributed ledger.
Amber: How did you first meet the Reitium team?
Gregg: Mike and I met at Startup Weekend in Vancouver a few years ago when I was the co-organizer. He was working on MyGreenSpace and I was an advisor. We got along really well and reconnected during the crypto market boom last year. It was then that the Reitium team approached me with their idea. I met Laura and Thomas through Michael.
Amber: What motivated you to become an advisor?
Gregg: Time is precious and I like to focus on high-impact work. When I meet a project team that has a solid vision with work-changing potential, I like to contribute however I can to further their goals. Reitium fit the bill nicely as real estate is one of the most stable asset classes yet, many people, even in the developed world, cannot invest in it.
Amber: How do you think Reitium will make change?
Gregg: The tokenization of real estate will significantly improve the efficiency and accessibility of this asset class to the majority of people that do not currently have the means to own or invest in real estate. As a historical store of value, real estate investment is an important tool for securing wealth, even in small amounts. Providing access to this asset class across the globe will have a major impact on the financial health of the vast majority of people who currently lack access to it.
