Podcast guest
The word failure comes with a special set of nuances that are unique to the entrepreneurship community. When starting up, you need to overcome so many challenges that sometimes, failure is the result. For Laura Fortey and many entrepreneurs like her, failure has been part of the process, and some even say a necessary one.
“The best advice that I would give to entrepreneurs is: don’t be afraid to fail. If it doesn’t work out, try the next thing,” says Fortey.
In this episode of the #THRIVEPodcast, host Komal Minhas sat down with Laura to learn about how she’s using the latest tech to build her company, REITIUM and share her startup story in Western Canada.

CTA Conf 19 Event Summary
Unbounce Call to Action conference empowers marketing professionals with knowledge, tools and technology. Bringing in twenty of the brightest minds in marketing, CTA conference calls on the attendees to challenge the status quo through innovative strategies and practical tactics. Inspired by the traditional IQ framework, this year’s conference covered six core elements of the “Marketing IQ” — design, copy, analytics, process, emotion and strategy. Each session was carefully curated to sharpen expertise and learning for improved marketing intelligence.
The speaker line up was so phenomenal that we decided to recap a few of Team REITIUM’s key takeaways.
Sonia Thompson’s talk titled: “Kiki, Do you Love Me?” talked about how to win more loyal customers by making them feel like they belong. She gave the example of how the “In my feelings” video inspired a viral dance challenge that encouraged everyone (including celebrities) to participate. The cool thing is that no one was told to do this and no one was paid. It was as pure viral effect that enticed Drake fans to feel a sense of belonging by being part of the song, in their own expression.
And as quoted by Sonia Thompson: “Empathy fuels good marketing”.
Ross Simmonds shared strategies for content marketing to establish a market fit that focuses on the framework that tells a certain story.
In his very memorable words businesses should focus on:
“Research. Rethink. Remix.”
“Research” refers to understanding where your audience is and what channel your audience uses the most.
“Rethink” is borrowing (not stealing) and getting inspired by other content you’re exposed to.
“Remix” is about putting those two together and making it appeal to your audience.
Joanna Wiebe talked about effective copywriting and listening to our customers, especially by way of using surveys. Leveraging a thank-you page and asking a quick question is a great way to assess the needs of your customer. The words your customers will relate to is within them, it’s our job to pull it out and understand what they’re looking for.
Larry Kim “Top 7 Facebook Ad Hacks for 2020” demonstrated how to create higher user engagement by using active chatbots in the sales and marketing funnel, allowing customers to be heard 24/7.
Adding onto the plethora of unicorns in his presentation, another very memorable takeaway was don’t be a donkey in a world full of unicorns.
