Never meaning to send

In the Moody Blues hit song Justin Hayward sang of "Letters I've written, never meaning to send." In my case I wrote the letters with every intention of sending them, and yet I never did. That was because I knew all along that whatever I had written said more about me than it did the person I was writing to and/or about.
