The creator economy movement hinges on various Web3 tools that are helping content creators take control of their work and monetize fairly from it. This is part one of an article rounding up some of the most prominent tools, at present, that creators can utilize.

Link-in-bio

It is practically impossible to go through your Instagram feed without hearing or reading “Link in bio”, this is for good reason. Most social media platforms do not allow for links to be added directly on posts, nor do they allow multiple links on your profile, like on Instagram. However, most content creators need to link to multiple brands, products, giveaways and more. Link-in-bio has converted this problem into an opportunity. Tools that help to link to various other sites, are providing creators with the chance to customize these links and act as an extension of their brand. Further, they provide a one-click access to the various monetization tools that fans can use to support creators.

Here are some Link-in-bio options worth checking out:

Linktree

Linktree works to aggregate all your links and provide a singular link. The landing page can be customized with a profile picture, background color and so on. Overall, Linktree is very user friendly, takes minimal effort to set up, but it doesn’t offer many unique features.

Beacons

Beacons is a direct competitor to Linktree, but with additional premium features available for free. Beacons offers better integration with monetization tools and customized domains. The free plan is quite comprehensive and they also offer a premium version targeting entrepreneurs.

Koji

Koji differs from its competitors by offering opportunities to Monetize directly on the link-in-bio page, as opposed to simply aggregating links where fans can support creators. With Koji’s add-ons, users can sell space on their pages, add exclusive content that fans need to pay for, sell customized videos and more. Koji is free to use but charges higher transaction fees than its competitors.

Monetization tools

Monetization is perhaps the most important, yet underserved category in Web2 creator tools and platforms. As a result, fair and stable monetization is a major focus in the Web3 creator economy. Monetization here, refers to generating revenue from the content the creator is putting out already. The most popular method for this used to be creating sponsored content. Slowly, the focus is shifting to create ways for fans to directly support the creators they enjoy, and in-return, creators can reward them for their support. What seemed to the uninitiated as paying for free content has now become a thriving space where fans feel proud to be supporting their favorite creators and creators are more fulfilled by their work.

Some fast-growing monetization tools:

Patreon

Patreon is perhaps, at present, the most popular monetization tool for content creators. It enables creators to build a membership-based payment system where creators can set up tiers of rewards for fans with exclusive content, engagement and more. Patreon not only incentivizes creators to focus on their creativity and put out content that their fans are looking for (as opposed to appeasing algorithms and sponsors), it also stabilizes their income flow. Patreon is easy to set up and offers many options for rewards, memberships and engagement so creators can serve their community better.

Buy me a coffee

Buy me a coffee’s model is similar to Patreon. The difference is largely that your audience can make payments to support you as and when they like, instead of relying on a subscription plan. While this removes the predictability of income, it allows for fans to support creators without thinking too much about the commitment. Buy me a coffee also allows creators to set up ways to support fans for their support. The platform also absorbs the transaction costs for fans removing another hurdle in monetization.

Releap Protocol

Releap Protocol is a decentralized, open-for-all social graph that allows users to wholly own and harness their audience and content. Users can create profiles, publish posts, run campaigns and more. Releap Protocol aims to give creators the freedom to retain ownership over the connections they have built with their audience by creating a fully customizable, user-owned social graph.
