Fourth of July Scrabble tournament brings the nation’s top 100+ competitors to Albany

Annual tournament returns to Albany for a five-day, 27-game run

ALBANY, N.Y. (July 1, 2024) — Scrabble champions and enthusiasts from across the nation and around the globe will gather in Albany County for the 4th of July Scrabble Tournament. Over 100 of the top players are expected for the five-day, 27-game main events, hosted Wednesday, July 3 through Sunday, July 7 at the Marriott Albany on Wolf Road in Colonie.

“The Albany 4th of July Scrabble Tournament isn’t just a competition; it’s a celebration of language, competition, and camaraderie,” says Josh Greenway, tournament director. “We’re thrilled to bring this unforgettable Scrabble experience to Albany and share the best of the best with the world through our live stream.”

“The attention to detail that Josh and his team put into the event is the primary reason for the continued success of the July 4th tournament.” Jay Cloutier, sports commissioner for Discover Albany. “The competition of course is first rate but the location, the competition floor and the activities surrounding each day’s scrabble play make this a must attend event for scrabble players. Josh’s team set the standard for tournament excellence.”

The tournament schedule is:

  • Wednesday, July 3 from 2:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. EST
  • Thursday, July 4 from 11:30 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. EST
  • Friday, July 5 from 9:30 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. EST
  • Saturday, July 6 from 9:30 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. EST
  • Sunday, July 7 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. EST
