SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (Nov. 3, 2023) — Bow Tie Management, the operating company for BTM Cinemas (formerly Bow Tie Cinemas), has rebranded as Scene One Entertainment.

Scene One will continue to operate movie theaters and as of this week, completed its acquisition of Huck Finn’s Playland, a historic amusement park operating in Albany, N.Y. The company will also relocate its headquarters from Stamford, Conn. to Schenectady. Joseph Masher, who served previously served as chief operating officer for Bow Tie Cinemas, is now owner and chief executive officer of Scene One Entertainment.

Scene One currently operates 60 movie screens at nine movie theaters in Colorado, New Jersey, New York State, South Carolina, and Virginia with plans for additional theater acquisitions in Connecticut, Texas, and New York. Cinemas will operate either under the Scene One or BTM (now “Big Time Movies”) Cinemas branding. Scene One has plans to expand into additional venues such as beer gardens (two currently being planned for Upstate New York) and a live theater for concerts and other forms of programming.

“At Scene One, we plan to expand our current offerings, while honoring the legacies and families who shepherded them through both good and bad,” said Masher.

Huck Finn’s Playland was owned, in its latest incarnation, by the Sperber family.

“Adding the amusement park is an honor, as it contains the actual first rides I ever experienced as a child. There aren’t many who can say they now own the first merry-go-round, Ferris wheel, and roller coaster they rode 50-plus years ago,” he added. “I’m in awe of the Sperber Family who saved Playland at the eleventh hour when it was to be auctioned off back in 2024. Both families have been amazing to deal with through this acquisition.

Masher serves as the treasurer of the National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO) and as the president of NATO of New York State. He is also on the board of directors of the National Association of Concessionaires and the National Film Preservation Board with the Library of Congress. He has lobbied for the industry for many years.
