501(c)(3) applicant and Amplify Albany grant recipient continues to raise funds through GoFundMe and receive donations from local food vendors

ALBANY, N.Y. (April 6, 2020) — Feed Albany, an initiative led by a group of Capital Region business owners and officials, has raised over $20,000 via their GoFundMe page in addition to their recently awarded grant of $5,000 by Capitalize Albany.

With the help of donations, the program reaches their goal to provide at-risk and in-need individuals with packaged meal solutions and to provide limited financial relief to unemployed restaurant workers by employing them to prepare and distribute food throughout Albany and the Capital Region.

“In addition to the $4,746.30 in food purchases we have made thus far, Sysco has donated in excess of 1,600 cases of food. Driscoll, Kilcoyne Farms and others have also provided support,” said Jason Pierce, owner of Savoy Taproom, one of Feed Albany’s partners. “Our actual food costs would be exponentially higher were it not for these donations. In fact, were it not for these donations, there would be no possible way for us to have met, and continue to meet, the demand.”

This week, Feed Albany is applying for 501(c)(3) status to become an official not-for-profit organization with partners Dominick Purnomo, Christina Tate, and Jason Pierce as the initial incorporating directors.

Feed Albany will be distributing 5,000 more meals this week that will be prepared and packaged at Savoy Taproom, The Point, Yono’s, and dp An American Brasserie. The prepared meals will be distributed to at-risk and in-need individuals who either contact Feed Albany directly or are referred to them by Albany County Department of Social Services, Office of Mental Health, LifePath (formerly Senior Services of Albany) or one of the other partner organizations.

Any restaurant owners who have commercial kitchens that are willing to be made available for use in the production and distribution of food are asked to reach out at feedalbany.com/restaurant.

Any newly unemployed restaurant employees who are in need of financial assistance and are willing to donate their time and talents are asked to visit feedalbany.com/employee.
