ALBANY, N.Y. (May 5, 2019) — The Lark Street Business Improvement District (“Lark Street BID”) will host its annual fundraiser, Champagne on the Park on Thursday, May 9 from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. near the formal tulip beds in Albany’s Washington Park.

The event, held right before the Albany’s 71st annual Tulip Festival, promotes Lark Street businesses, organizations, and raises funds for the BID’s beautification and improvement activities.

“Champagne on the Park is our favorite way to celebrate the start of warmer weather and a great event to kick off the amazing events we have coming this spring and summer,” said Shauna M. Collins, executive director of the Lark Street BID. “It’s a wonderful chance to honor the culture and businesses we have here in Albany and promote those businesses who help make Lark Street such a special place.”

This year, the BID will honor Robert Fullem, owner of Downtube Bicycleworks, as the recipient of the 2019 John Wagner Award as well as his daughter Emma Fullem, who will be receiving the Rising Star Award. Following a fire in the original Downtube Cycleworks location which had been a mainstay of the neighborhood for over 40 years, Robert took the opportunity to expand his business and pursue a longtime dream of owning a coffee shop. With the help of his daughter, Emma, the pair reopened Downtube Bicycleworks along with the new 3Fish Coffee achieving both of their dreams while continuing to be a gathering place for the Albany community.

Additional honorees include Virginia and Anthony Berrios, owners of Perfect Cut Hair Salon and neighborhood residents for over 40 years, who will be receiving the Heart of Lark Award.

The BID will be honoring businesses on Lark Street who have supported Champagne on the Park over the years including LAX Restaurant and Lounge, Lark Street Poke Bar, the Lionheart Pub, Shogun Sushi, Rain Modern Chinese, TapAsia, Debbie’s Kitchen, Savoy Taproom, Bombers Burrito Bar, El Mariachi Tapas, Dunkin’ Donuts, Café Hollywood, Lark Tavern, Dove + Deer, Umana Restaurant and Wine Bar, Wolff’s Biergarten, Kanters Deli, Healthy On Lark, Ben & Jerry’s, 288 Wine & Tap, Soho and Noho Pizza, Café 217, Pizzaroni, and Berben & Wolff’s Vegan Delicatessen.

Additionally, Champagne on the Park will feature music by The Graham Tichy Band, hors d’oeuvres by Nicole’s, champagne and wine from Capital Wine and spirits, cider from Nine Pin Cider, and photos by Rose and Dale Photo Company.

This event will go on as planned, rain or shine. For more information on Champagne on the Park or to purchase tickets, visit larkstreetbid.org
