ALBANY, N.Y. (July 10, 2017) — The Lark Street Business Improvement District (“Lark Street BID”) has announced the unveiling of new street banners adorn along the Lark Street corridor, the result of a banner competition funded through Capitalize Albany’s Amplify Albany grant program. The newly designed banners will be seen by the more than 200,000 visitors who visit Lark Street annually.

“Sunshine on Lark,” the winning design, was created by Troy-based designer Mitchell Biernacki, owner of Daydream Hunter Creations, a small business focused on custom creations, graphic design, and unique decor. A long-time resident of the Capital Region, Biernacki has worked on various projects involving local art, including designing and assembling window displays, painting the clog sculpture on Lodge Street, freelance work for the Downtown Albany BID, and this year, a Nipper design for “Downtown is Pawsome.”

“We’d like to thank the Capitalize Albany Corporation, the Capital Resource Corporation, and the City of Albany for supporting this project. We believe the new banners will have a great impact by beautifying the street and helping to keep up the momentum,” said Shauna Collins, executive director, Lark Street BID.

The winning design was selected by people’s choice-style vote at Champagne on the Park in May.

“I heard about the contest via social media, but my decision to participate was based on encouragement from group of my friends, who know about my love for local art. Inspired by the brownstone houses and the aesthetics from a design I made for Washington Park, my goal with the banner was to create a vibrant snapshot of life on Lark, while highlighting the architectural variety that makes Albany such a unique, influential city. The Lark Street community inspires and pushes so many toward success, as it’s a pocket of creativity filled with talent, inspiration, and a community that constantly strives to support the artists within,” said Biernacki.

All participants of the banner competition have been invited to display their work via a complimentary booth at this year’s LarkFEST, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 23.
