ALBANY, N.Y. (Aug. 9, 2024) — The Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York (LASNNY) is now accepting nominations for the 2024 Justice for All (JFA) awards. Recipients of these awards will be honored at the organization’s annual JFA dinner Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024, at Loft 433, 433 River Street, Troy.

The open award categories for the annual dinner include The Ruth M. Miner Leadership Award, The William E. (Bill) Byron Equal Justice Award, and The Community Partner Award. In addition to these categories, LASNNY will distribute The Private Attorney Involvement award and the Justice For All Campaign Award. Award nominees can be submitted through LASNNY’s Neon application. The deadline to submit this year’s award nominees will be Friday, Aug. 23, 2024.

“These annual awards are an opportunity to celebrate the champions in and out of the legal community that support us,” said Nic Rangel, executive director of LASNNY.

The Ruth M. Miner Leadership Award, honoring LASNNY’s first staff attorney and Executive Director, recognizes an outstanding leader in civil legal services who helped “blaze a trail” for the next generation and honors an individual who is creating a more diverse and inclusive legal community.

The William E. (Bill) Byron Equal Justice Award, honoring LASNNY’s only non-attorney Board President, recognizes an individual champion of civil legal services who has staunchly preserved or defended the civil legal rights of individuals in New York State and has endeavored to ensure equal access to justice for low-income and vulnerable persons.

The Justice for All Award recognizes the exceptional commitment to civil legal services and to LASNNY by a law firm demonstrated by its pro bono service, technical assistance, volunteerism, mentorship, training/ CLE, and program or financial support.

The Community Partner Award recognizes an outstanding community partner (non-attorney individual or group) who exemplifies the goals and values of LASNNY through their exceptional efforts to support and promote civil legal services.

The PAI Pro Bono Award recognizes an individual for their distinguished service to PAI as demonstrated through years of service, hours of service, number of clients, client outcomes, number of “Know Your Rights” presentations, number of clinics, mentoring volunteer attorneys, CLE presentations and other acts of service.

The Justice for All Campaign is an annual donation from local law firms to help strengthen LASNNY’s ability to provide representation, advice, and legal information to individuals and families. The Justice for All Annual Campaign was founded in 2004 by local law firms and has since raised over $2 million. This continual support is essential for LASNNY to provide their clients with day-to-day legal assistance with urgent civil, non-criminal legal problems.

LASNNY provides free legal and support services to underserved communities including for people who are facing HIV/AIDS, domestic violence, eviction, and more. To learn additional information about the Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York visit www.lasnny.org.
