New outdoor artwork adorns cidery in Albany’s warehouse district

ALBANY, N.Y. (Aug. 21, 2019) — Nine Pin Ciderworks, New York’s first farm cidery, has announced two new outdoor murals for their Albany cidery and tasting room.

The I Apple Albany mural was designed by Joe Klockowski and painted by Ilona Klimek, owner of IMK Signs & Designs in Chatham, NY. Klockowski is an Albany based graphic designer/artist who is Nine Pin’s graphic designer. Ilona Klimek is a Columbia County-based artist who has been painting and using gold-leaf techniques on commercial signs for nearly 20 years. She worked for 19 years with John Reilly of John Reilly Signs & Designs in Chatham, N.Y., before taking over the business in March 2018 upon Reilly’s retirement.

The second new mural is a “moveable mural” inspired by the story of Rip Van Winkle, painted by local artist Billy Lyon. This collaboration was curated in partnership with Albany Center Gallery, Lyon, and Nine Pin. Lyon recently moved to Albany from Rochester and currently is working on commissions and personal art projects.

“As part of the Capital Region’s creative economy, Nine Pin is always looking to enhance our facility in Albany and make it as interesting as possible,” said Alejandro del Peral, co-founder and cider maker. “We think having murals painted by local artists highlights the incredible creative talent our region has to offer.”

“We are excited to partner with Nine Pin Cider on this project and to have Billy create a unique piece that will inspire visitors and tap into the story of Rip Van Winkle. Together, collaborations like this speak to the importance of artists, businesses and community working together to share creativity,” said Tony Iadicicco, executive director, Albany Center Gallery

The murals can be viewed on the Thacher Street side of Nine Pin’s cidery and tasting room at 929 Broadway, Albany, New York.
