ALBANY, N.Y (Jan. 18, 2021) — As part of the National Day of Service, Feed Albany has announced it has received $250,000 from the family foundation established by Saratoga Springs philanthropists Ed and Lisa Mitzen.

The donation marks the largest single donation Feed Albany has received since it was established in March 2020.

“The Mitzen Family has seen the tremendous power of community, selflessness, and empathy Feed Albany has embodied since its founding less than a year ago,” said Ed Mitzen. “We are proud to support this genuine, remarkable, and volunteer-led endeavor as part of our philanthropic vision for our region. It is our hope that we set an example for others to open their wallets and give to organizations such as Feed Albany to ensure their success in responding to crisis continues to be as fruitful and effective.”

“Words cannot accurately describe the emotions we’re feeling with this absolutely incredible donation from The Mitzen Family,” said Dominick Purnomo, president, Feed Albany. “As we near our one year anniversary, this tremendous donation will allow us to greatly enhance our continuing efforts to provide meals, much-needed grocery items, and essentials for those in-need and at-risk. The Mitzens’ generosity is seemingly limitless and we cannot thank them enough for this unbelievable sign of support.”

The donation will be used to expand and sustain Feed Albany’s core operations, including providing additional meals, grocery items, and essential needs.

Since its founding in March of 2020, Feed Albany has provided more than 250,000 meals to unemployed restaurant and hospitality workers, first responders, and at-risk and in-need individuals. Additionally, Feed Albany has provided groceries to senior citizens and families in need throughout New York’s Capital Region.
