When did the relationship start falling apart? Is this just a bad phase? Can I trust them anymore? How can I continue to make it work?

If you’ve ever either been in a rough relationship or worked with a marketing agency, you’ve probably heard these questions before. While it may seem like a comical comparison at first, a poor relationship with an agency often stems from the same issues as a bad relationship with a person. Over some time, we at Relic have learned a few key points that help both us and our clients achieve goals for their company. It is a partnership after all.

While we could talk about several factors, they all boil down to the same core issue:

Communication.

As with any partnership, communication is absolutely essential. Anytime there is a disconnect between the agency and the client, it typically comes down to a lack of communication between the parties. At first, the agency will need your help to indoctrinate them into the ways of your company. How do day-to-day operations work? What is your company voice? What are your goals of this partnership?

Work together to identify your objectives for the partnership. Make sure that what you’re asking is something that the agency is capable of. When one of your objectives is met, celebrate that victory together. If you fall short, work together to identify what set you back so that you can adjust going forward.

You almost certainly provide both positive and constructive feedback to your employees to perpetuate activities that they’re doing well, and drive improvements in areas they’re not. Why wouldn’t you do the same with your most important partner? While it’s certainly our responsibility to ask, don’t hold back on letting us know if there’s something that you’d like handled differently. That’s what you would do if we were an actual employee on your team, so what better way to cultivate a partnership with your agency than treating us like one! Establish clear lines of communication between you and the agency and you will already be on your way to developing a productive partnership.

At Relic, we go the extra mile to ensure that working with us does not place an extra burden on you. After all, you hire a marketing agency to help you, not create additional problems. To learn more about Relic and what we can do to assist you, visit us here. http://relicagency.com/contact
