Relic Review: 2020
Despite everything against us, we’ve come a long way in the last 12 months!
No-one can argue that 2020 was a good year. Yet, despite everything it threw at us, Relic has grown from just an idea, to a project we’re incredibly proud of. Here’s just some of the things we achieved…
Created a team
Despite being based primarily in Norwich, UK, the Relic team has from the start been an international project, with the show’s creator Craig based in the US, and team members joining from Norway and France.
We’re now a rapidly growing team of over 30 members, working to bring Craig and Elle’s vision to life. We have two showrunners, five producers, and a team of incredible writers, directors and DOPs.
Not only that, but we’ve managed to pick up not one but two costume designers, our incredible social media coordinator, a makeup artist and a whole production design department. We’re so thankful for everyone involved and excited to continue to work with the team this year.
Wrote 5 incredible scripts
Our scripts contain no less than 171 pages in total! Based on Craig’s original idea, our writers split into groups and started working on the episodes. After several round of edits and changes, we finally have 3 completed scripts, with the remaining 2 in their final edits.
Found a cast
Zoom auditions aren’t ideal, but we’ve still been able to find a fantastic cast, some of whom we’ve already had the opportunity to work with (check out our Rode Reel entry here!). It’s been incredible to see the scripts come to life and we’re so excited to capture our talented actors through a proper camera, not just zoom meetings and webcams.
Started planning for filming
Although 2021 has already thrown us some curveballs (talking about you, COVID mutation and UK lockdown!), we’re preparing for filming as best as we can. Everyone has gotten started on their jobs, and we’re so excited to get filmming as soon as it’s safe!
Pre-production is well underway, and we already have costume scrapbooks, mood boards, planing documents, videos, social media and blog posts, and so much more. Our seemingly endless zoom meetings have already produced great things, and we’re so excited to see all of this eventually come together.
Been given a budget
We started our crowdfunder with no idea if our goal was even near realistic. Since we started it, over 20 people have donated money, leaving us with a budget of about £300. While we’re still clearly in the low-budget category, we’re endlessly thankful for everyone who’s supported us (In a giving mood this time of year? Support us here!).
Ok, maybe I lied…
For Relic, I can confidently say 2020 was not just good, but great! We’ve been overwhelmed by the support we’ve recieved so far, and we can’t wait to bring this project to life!
