A man keeps mowing with a tornado behind him. We all learn a valuable lesson

“Honey, are you going to come inside? There’s a twister behind you.”

Theunis Wessels, who lives in Three Hills, Alberta, calmly responded to his wife, Cecilia, “No.”

Now, the photo Cecilia Wessels took of her husband mowing with a tornado looming menacingly in the background is taking the Internet by storm. No surprise.

Most men, myself included, would have been long gone with just the threat of a twister. In fact, my wife will never have to tell me come inside if there’s a tornado close by. She will have to tell me to come back outside once it’s long gone.

I don’t think Theunis is brave, though. He’s crazy. But whatever you think about him, this photo serves as a great reminder of how our faith should look. When the world around us is spinning out of control, we should keep our nose to the plow. We should keep to the task at hand.

And while we should never be ignorant of the evils around us, we should never let them deter us from what God has called us to do.

We should not fret when storms are all around. The Lord guides us.

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

—Isaiah 41:10

We can keep an eye on it, as Theunis said of the twister, but no matter what, we should keep going. Keep mowing.
