The Republican Mask is Finally Off
The recent comments from JD Vance are the latest sign that the GOP is going full-on racist in the 2024 election.
If you had told me a decade ago that the GOP would stop even pretending that they weren’t racist, I probably wouldn’t have believed you. After all, the defeat of Mitt Romney in 2012 forced the Republican Party to do some introspection about how it was running its campaigns and how it was (or, more to the point, wasn’t) doing to reach out to minority groups. The key, it probably seemed at the time, was to keep trying to thread the needle of appealing to aggrieved Whites while at least paying some amount of lip service to BIPOC who would, everyone agreed, become necessary to a winning coalition.
Fast forward to 2024, and we’re now in a world in which the Vice Presidential candidate — and should Trump win in November, the man who will be a few heartbeats from the Presidency itself — has done his damnedest to spread misinformation and malignant rumors about the Haitian immigrants who have moved to a small town in his home state of Ohio.
Yes, I’m talking about JD Vance. He of the weirdness and the ability to put his foot in his mouth and the inability to look even remotely like a normal functioning human being.
