In a year filled with near misses, one thing that was back in our hearts, as Princess Leia put it was a NEW HOPE.

With just one half of football remaining this year. I thought I will recap the year that was.

10. League Cup and Europa League Final appearances

Well two missed opportunities.

League Cup was lost on penalties after a gutsy performance against a clearly superior squad.

Europa League Finals was a game of two halves. It was a professional first half with a sublime goal by Sturridge. The second half was an absolute implosion against Sevilla and Liverpool ended up losing 3–1. Gone with this were the hopes of getting into Champions League.

9. Liverpool 4–1 Leicester

Opening up the new main stand in style.

After being away from home for first few weeks of the 2016–17 premier league season. Liverpool started the home stand against the reigning premier league champions.

It was an absolutely dominant performance.

8. Manchester United 1–1 Liverpool

Coutinho lights up Old Trafford

After winning the first leg at Anfield 2–0, the aggregate lead was precarious with United having scored and holding onto a 1–0 lead. This Coutinho goal basically iced the Round of 16, to move onto the Quarter Finals against Borussia Dortmund.

7. Liverpool 3- 0 Manchester City

Have played them a few days ago in League Cup final and having lost out in penalties, Liverpool got an instant shot at redemption.

As Jurgen put it, the best home performance under him till date, and timely goals from Lallana, Milner and Firmino meant that it was a great performance. Great Kolo Toure tackle on Aguero. Jon Flannagan showing up after a long time.

To sum up, BOOM!

6. Chelsea 1–2 Liverpool

Maybe the defeat which woke up Conte and Chelsea.

Peach of a goal from Henderson and a opener from Lovren settled this tie.

5. Everton 0–1 Liverpool

Last gasp Mane winner, created by Daniel Sturridge settled a tense Merseyside derby.

94th Minute Winner that!

4. Arsenal 3–4 Liverpool

Opening Day Emirates heart stopper was as great a start that we could have had to the 2016–17 Premier League season.

A typical liverpool performance, went down by 1, Went up by 3 with a 4–1 scoreline, with the fourth goal being celebrated by players by getting on Klopp.

Then came the crash of letting in two goals and what should have been a comfortable second half lead ended up with hanging on to one goal lead at the end.

3. Liverpool 2–0 Manchester United

During the champions league hey day of mid 2000s I long wished for Champions League showdowns with Manchester United and Alex Ferguson. We faced Chelsea multiple times and Arsenal once in Europe. Finally familiar foes were to meet in Europe. albeit in the second tier Europa League Quarter finals.

Clinical performance.

2. Norwich 4–5 Liverpool

One of the GREATEST FINISH to a GAME EVER. And a 9 goal thriller to boot

After a topsy turvy match, Norwich equalized 4–4 in the added time, but there was still time for Adam Lallana to score the winner and Klopp to lose his glasses.

  1. Liverpool 4–3 Dortmund

GREATEST ANFIELD COMEBACK EVER. Enough said.

Here is the match summary:

Honorary Mentions:

Liverpool 3–3 Arsenal, “Match will be talked about for a long time”

Liverpool 3–0 Villareal, The Typical Anfield European 2nd Leg
