Blessed be the ties that bind

Good authors are good and frequent readers. This means reading not just to see how the story plays itself out or the point that the argument ends up with, but also to understand how the piece was written. But another pleasure in reading is to find cases in which this one author in effect is making an aside to the reader to say, “you know these other books that you like? I’ve read them, too.”
