Stretching

If I had to say what the purpose of humanity is — and were allowed to apply the caveat that this is not necessarily a teleology assigned to us, but is instead one that our potential makes possible — my answer would be that it is to go beyond: beyond the Great Rift Valley, beyond the stage of hunter-gatherer, beyond the barriers of oceans and glaciers, up to understanding the extremities — be they the subatomic or the cosmological — and eventually to the stars.
