Release v1.0.0
We have decided to call this release, version 1.0 of Remix IDE!
Why now and what is special about this release?
Remix has moved out of the Ethereum Foundation, and we have moved our repos to our new GitHub organization.
Going forward, to make issues for Remix-project go to:
https://github.com/remix-project-org/remix-project
This release itself is not a particularly large one but we feel that Remix is now a mature enough project to give it an official release.
Now on to the updates…
Environment Dropdown Menu Revamped
We’ve made the Environment dropdown menu shorter by adding flyout menus.
Note: the Remix VM flyout menu also contains the option to initiate a fork of another chain.
Browser wallets are selected in the Browser extension flyout. Custom — External Http Provider, is for connecting to a node or a node provider (like Infura). The Dev section is for connecting to local development chains (HardHat Provider, Foundry Provider, and even Ganache Provider).
RemixAI: New Conversation Starters
We’ve added some “conversation starters” to the RemixAI Assistant. Every time you refresh Remix, there will be some new suggested questions to ask RemixAI. The questions are provided just to get you going.
While these suggestions are in English, you can ask a question in any language and RemixAI will answer you in that language.
Workspaces now have a config file
Each Workspace now contains a configuration file keeping track of script dependencies and compiler configurations. The file in the root of each Workspace is named:
remix.config.json
When you want a new Workspace to have the same configuration as an existing one, just copy this file from the existing Workspace to the new one, and you’ll be set!
But, did you know that your scripts can load dependencies?
Loading Script Dependencies
As a little refresher, script dependencies are accessed in the Script Configuration panel. To access this:
- Make the script active in the Editor
- Go to the down caret next to the Main Panel’s Run script button
- Select the Open script configuration option.
If the active file is not a script, then the Run script button turns into the Compile button and the Open script configuration option is not present.
If all is set, then the panel will load in a Main Panel Tab:
There are plenty of choices, but if you don’t see your preferred dependency, make an issue in our new repo!
