With an influx of new private mobility options, cities have both an opportunity to expand transportation options and a responsibility to ensure equitable access while maintaining accountability. In both, data play a critical role.

The right data in micromobility pilots puts cities back at the center of managing the transportation system — Andrew Glass Hastings, Remix Senior Mobility Strategist and former Director of Transit and Mobility at the Seattle Department of Transportation.

As cities rapidly adopt scooter and dockless bikeshare requirements, an increasingly discussed topic is the when, what, and how data is collected and used.

Remix Civic Data Lead Michal Migurski and Senior Mobility Strategist Andrew Glass Hastings sat down with an audience from cities and the transportation industry to discuss these topics in more detail. Key topics we covered include:

  1. Challenges and opportunities related to micromobility data (starting at 5:20)
  2. The types of data cities are asking for today (starting at 9:00)
  3. Important next steps cities can take to help ensure successful pilots (starting at 14:50)

If you’re in the process of developing micromobility regulations related to bikeshare or scooters, be sure to check out our recent paper, Micromobility: an Opportunity to Serve the Underserved Edges or our Survey on City Data Policies.
