Deadhead runtimes are now editable for each deadhead trip.

More Flexibility Means More Control

We recently shipped four new features to help you customize your experience within Remix Scheduling. Here’s a summary of how these new features give you more control over the schedules you build in Remix.

1. Editable Deadhead Runtimes

A deadhead is a non-revenue trip that a vehicle takes as part of its fixed route service. Deadheads include pull-ins and pull-outs to/from the garage as well as driving between different locations in the field in between revenue trips.

Now you can directly edit these estimates to reflect the time that your agency actually allocates to the deadhead. To do so, simply right-click the deadhead task in the block chart. In the context menu that appears, simply click on the old value and type something new over it.

Deadheads with user-entered durations have a gray background.

This modifies the deadhead matrix stored in Remix’s backend, so the update will apply to all the other deadheads that have the same start and end location. Note that this won’t update deadheads in the reverse direction, so they need to be edited separately.

When a map is copied, the deadhead matrix is copied with it, so all deadhead times will be the same as those in the original map.

2. Customizable Block and Run Names

Block and run names are now fully customizable.

Previously, blocks and runs had no identifiers, they simply had a number reflecting their position in the current sort order.

This could cause trouble when you wanted to keep track of an individual block or run. Every time you’d sort by a different column, the names would change.

Now, block and run IDs stay the same even when they change position in the list, and you can edit them. Now you can have naming schemes for your blocks and runs, helping to keep schedulers and operators on the same page about what work it includes.

The names you give blocks and runs show up in the Remix Excel export as well as in the paddles.

3. Defining Garage Locations

Remix now allows you to define the location of your garage. To do so, simply right-click on a location on a map and pick “Garage” in the dropdown. Give it a name and then hit “Create.”

Remix still currently only supports a single garage per map.

4. Defining Relief Points

Remix now allows you to define the stops where operators can be relieved. To do so, simply right-click on the stop, and click to set “Relief point” to “yes.”

Relief points automatically default to “Meal break points”, locations where operators can take breaks after handing over the bus to another operator. To turn this off, set “Meal break point” to “no.”

Continuous Improvements

We ship improvements for the Remix platform whenever they’re ready, so you always have the most recent version of Remix. To stay up to date on recent changes, you can follow along here, or always feel free to reach out to your customer success manager.
