Listen to your environment

Remote is a journey of discovery, it’s constant learning. Remote is your environment talking to you, and you must listen. If you listen and act accordingly, you will blossom. If you don’t, you will be unhealthy.

Why do I say this? Because there is no recipe for Remote. Every individual, every company will forge their own meaning of Remote. And Remote is not for everyone.

Anyways, I kind of drifted away there, but not really. I always pay attention to Zapier’s blog posts about remote working. They are awesome.

For example, Zapier’s Ultimate Guide to Remote Working (well, not a post, it’s a book) shares Zapier’s and other companies experiences, tips, challenges, practices on how to deal with remote teams. Every company has their own point of view, their path, and it’s theirs alone, no one else’s. Sure, you will share lot’s of points made, and will disagree with others, and that’s how it should be.

For, example, this post in Zapier’s blog describes the story of Batchbook and how they deal with the challenge of remote and co-located workers at the same time. I’m currently experiencing this hybrid-mode. Most of the company employees are at the office, and I’m not. This basically means that we’re not all on the same page when it comes to Remote, and yes, sometimes, working remotely sucks.

Find your meaning of Remote, you must.

Happy remoting.
