Adopt an abundance mindset
Abundance is not something we acquire. It is something we tune into. — Wayne Dyer
Building a successful business requires a lot of resources, and it isn’t always about the money. Sometimes time is the issue, or the lack of necessary connections to make it work. No matter what’s your soft spot, a positive mindset is the key, as performance is 100% tied to your attitude.
The ideal approach is called by some Abundant Thinking — a mindset that enables your creativity and strengths, and activates your positive side so that you can see all the choices and options available to you. Seeing these choices is at the root of Abundant Thinking.
Letting go of fear
The universe will reward you for taking risks on its behalf. — Shakti Gawain
Why do we tend to focus on the negative, then? Well, it’s basically because the human brain is wired for a grand purpose — and that is survival. The mind is not designed to help us be happy and joyful, but to help us survive. So this is why it magnifies the bad and seems to be always in search of danger. This is why we surprise ourselves often acting out of a place of scarcity and fear.
But beware, a scarcity mindset will sabotage your chances of success. This is something we can control and turn into an advantage. Because we do have the choice of what to focus on. Remember, what’s wrong is always available, but so is what’s right.
We’ve put together a list of 7 methods that we believe will help you build and maintain an abundance mindset. Put them to test and you’ll discover what it feels like to have all the world’s resources at your fingertips ;)
1. Focus on what you have instead of what you lack.
We strongly believe that if you want to be happy in life, you have to learn to count your blessings, not your problems. This sums up pretty much everything there is to say about how we should look at things. But when it comes in contradiction with a lifetime of negativity and disappointment about unattainable goals, this is certainly not an easy thing to do.
So first on the list is changing your train of thought in such a manner that will allow you to actually appreciate the good and the bad likewise. This is the most important step towards feeling more abundant. For instance, when you are low on money, don’t focus on that, but try to think of other ways to earn them. Because there is an unwritten rule that says ”what you focus on, you will see in your world”. Which means if you manage to train your mind to focus on what you do have, instead of what you lack, ideas and opportunities will start to appear as if from nowhere. In fact, they have just been hanging out in the background for a while and suddenly their time has come. By paying extra attention to the things you have and love, like work, family, hobbies, you’ll start discovering the abundance mindset.
2. Be confident.
Newfound confidence may be the next step to gaining an abundance outlook on life. There are many ways in which you can boost your confidence levels. For example, next time you participate in a conference or meeting, make your ideas known, raise your hand and speak up. Also, start appreciating every small victory — be it in your professional or personal life. Work a little on your social profiles as well — your self-image will be improved. All of these in fact will increase your self-esteem, which will make you more confident and at the same time more resilient to setbacks.
Those with increased self-esteem are more positive and seem more determined to succeed. This is why an abundance mindset goes hand in hand with working on your confidence.
3. Think positive.
Doing what you love is the cornerstone of having abundance in your life. — Wayne Dyer
Needless to say — being a positive person is one of the most rewarding gifts of all. It has become kind of a cliche, but in fact positive thinking truly changes the way we behave. And it positively influences not only ourselves, but those around us also.
In a world where we can easily be overwhelmed by the bad and the ugly, finding the silver lining can help us cultivate a positive and abundant mindset. Those with abundant mindsets spread the ”joy” for others. Just imagine what you could accomplish with that kind of attitude.
4. Get organized.
Although it may sound boring, being an organized person pays off even when we talk about finding our abundance perspective. First of all, we mustn’t assume that organization is about perfection. In fact, it is about being more efficient and saving time and money.
When you feel you don’t have enough time to do what you need to everyday, a little organizing may actually help you. You could work with a planner or calendar, write down goals and responsibilities and this way find some time you didn’t know you had — for yourself. If you feel you’re low on money, re-budgeting or getting yourself a smart mobile app to help you with planning and accounting for your expenses might be just what you need. And finally, if you think you don’t have the necessary connections to be taken into consideration seriously, you could just browse more closely through your contacts, friends and acquaintances and it’s possible you will be surprised at how many opportunities can arise from under the surface.
These are just three simple ways in which you can realize you actually have the resources to do what you desire, just that you are too overwhelmed to find them. A little organization may help you uncover extra assets and build an abundance mindset for yourself.
5. Surround yourself with people like you.
Everyone knows that saying ”Birds of a feather flock together”. It applies for positive and negative things as well. So it’s no wonder that if you hang out with people with a scarcity mentality, you will have the same attitude and mindset. If you want to change this and gain an abundance mindset try instead to be around people who have the same attitude and aspiration as you do. They will send you their contagious vibe and even if you go through a rough patch and you’re feeling down, they will get you right back on track with their positivity, creativity and organizational skills.
If these people are very few or unavailable precisely when you would need them to support you, there are also other ways. You could read, listen to and watch personal development material. Replacing the news and commercials with success stories for instance, will totally change your perspectives. Being more selective with what you allow to enter into your mind, you are more bound to create an abundance environment around yourself.
6. Be grateful.
One of the fastest and simplest ways to build a more abundant life is to appreciate what you have at the present time, every day of your life. How does it work? Well, start by being grateful for your work and family, for the food on your table and the the water in your half-full glass :)!
Being grateful will put sunshine over any mood you might have. If you are by nature more skeptical or negative, you can practice appreciation so that one day it becomes a habit. You can, for instance, choose a moment of the day when you express your gratitude to everything that is good in your life. Maybe in the morning, before getting out of bed or while you brush your teeth or walk your dog.
You can continue by starting to express loudly the appreciation you have for your colleagues and partners. Because people want to know their contribution matters. Show them they are valuable and your value as their leader will grow exponentially.
I have the greatest of all riches: that of not desiring them. — Eleonora Duse
Holding on to what belongs to us is a practice that makes it difficult for the abundant state of mind to prevail in your life. When we become prisoners of our possessions, money or social status, there is the risk of being too dour.
One way to fight it is to cultivate sharing. Do you feel like you’re not making enough money? Give some away. Not enough love? Give some away. Not enough validation, appreciation, recognition? Give it all away. If you feel a lack of respect from others, give respect to others. If you feel a lack of compassion from others, be compassionate to others. If you feel like people don’t love you, love other people. If you feel broke, donate time and money to the poor. It’s hard for something to feel scarce when you have enough to give away, don’t you think? :)
Having an abundance mindset means that you understand there is plenty out there for everybody: plenty of money, plenty of love, plenty of time. There’s plenty now and there will be plenty tomorrow too. Life is ephemeral, so live large, believe in the endless possibilities it has to offer and choose to live an abundant life. Enjoy it!
At TRISOFT, we believe that one doesn’t have to have all the resources under the sun to feel abundant. Instead, building and maintaining the right mindset will help you achieve what you thought was previously impossible.
