Sharing a workspace with other people brings joy, a sense of community and collaboration, but at the end of the day, it should also spark gratitude and appreciation.

By showing our staff or team members that we care about them and recognize everything they do for us and for the company will go a long way. They will feel valued and cherished, which will, in turn, enhance productivity and happiness in the workplace.

Even something as small as a “thank you” or “great job!” might be more important than you can imagine, since it boosts confidence and self-worth. Gratitude is a non-financial means of demonstrating to people that they are seen, acknowledged and treasured.

Here are some great ways to show your team how grateful you are for their hard labor and dedication.

1. Tell them

First of all, express it through your words — it is absolutely free, but brings numerous beneficial results.

You might believe that people already know they are appreciated and recognized, but in truth, telling someone straightforwardly that you think highly of them happens very rarely and has a great impact on morale and self-worth.

Take some time to acknowledge your team’s dedication and admit that you see them doing the best they can. If they feel better, you will feel better too, and the company will increase its efficiency and profits.

If you’d like to take on a funnier or more novel approach, you can even leave small post-its on their desks or voice messages on their phones, telling them how you view their commitment and efforts.

2. Buy them a meal

Moreover, at lunchtime, you can buy everyone a meal. Everyone loves food and needs to eat at least one proper meal during the day. And if you make sure that people take the time to stand down and enjoy their favorite food or a healthy snack, it will also turn into an opportunity for socializing, catching up or exchanging ideas about a certain task or deadline.

Even in this era of remote work, you can still order and share a lunch with coworkers by leaving the laptop on, with video or only audio functions, so that people won’t have to eat alone and resort to the same repetitive actions of checking social media or zapping through TV programs.

3. Give them time off

Thirdly, a special benefit you can offer is time off — the company won’t suffer or collapse if top performers get some additional time off now and then. This is an incentive for those who go an extra mile for the needs of the company.

Not only will workers feel appreciated, but it will also boost productivity, since everyone will work harder in order to earn that extra vacation time.

4. Use financial incentives

Furthermore, you could use financial incentives to get people motivated or to make them understand they are valued and rewarded as such. Although it’s not the most original or innovative idea in the world, it’s one that everyone knows, understands and appreciates. This way, people can use the money to buy themselves whatever they like or need most at the moment.

You could grant annual bonuses or project-based prizes for team members who reach specific goals or offer them a pay raise if you see outstanding results. On a smaller scale, you could also give out gift cards to local coffee shops, restaurants or retail stores. A

Accompany the cash with a thank-you note for a more personalized touch.

5. Offer them flexibility

Last but not least, the best thing you can offer anyone is flexibility — be open to communication and to fixing mistakes. Help people accomplish their tasks or allow for a small window of delay in deadlines without immediately applying sanctions or reprimands.

This approach demonstrates that you value their efforts and trust them to get the job done, whatever obstacles or hardships they might encounter. The goal is for employees to learn from their mistakes, not make them feel bad over every little thing.

Remember that your team members are human and have a life outside of work; sometimes life happens, and we all need to adapt. Show that you appreciate and respect them enough to wait and hear what their reasons and explanations are.

Thank you!

All in all, gratitude is easy to express and pays off in so many ways. Happy employees will develop healthier relationships with their teams and customers.

At TRISOFT we believe saying thank you is contagious. If you start applying this principle in the workplace, it will soon be adopted by everyone at the office, from top to bottom. A culture of gratitude creates a more efficient, happier, productive and enthusiastic environment that helps workers get the job done.
