So…what happened to Remote Wing?

Yeah.

It’s been well over a year since Remote Wing has seen the light of day.

And honestly, I really don’t have a good reason why I let it slip.

A lot of life has happened since April 2020.

  • Last fall, we packed up our car, threw our furniture in storage, and road tripped 3,500 miles across the country to San Francisco.
  • A few months later, my wife got a new job AND self-published her first book (which you can grab here if you’re interested).
  • We came back to Florida—this time, back to our hometown—in search of a new start, where we’d be closer to family.
  • We found ourselves dealing with some unique health challenges.
  • We decided to continue living life as we would otherwise, and we kept traveling—mostly weekend trips here and there.
  • We jumped from AirBnb to AirBnb, finally signing a lease in April in a small house in Fort Lauderdale.
  • We found ourselves, over time, moving at a slower pace, letting life come to us instead of trying to control it.
  • I got a new job in summer, working on a Product team for a Portugal-based health tech startup.
  • We rested a lot. We picked up a new hobby (tennis), and we’re still figuring out life as adults in a place we only previously knew as kids.

So yeah. Lots of life happened.

But in all that time, for whatever reason, I couldn’t find the energy—or even the desire—to upkeep Remote Wing. To check up on the people in our little Slack channel that grew from 3 to 300 in just a few months.

I honestly feel that I let it slip. I feel that I let a lot of things slip in the past 18 months. Life has been hard.

Normally, I ride the high waves and run quickly from the low ones. But recently, I’ve been feeling the full weight of the ebbs and flows, not just choosing to feel one and ignoring the other.

Life has been hard.

But, at least right now, that’s no reason to not bring back Remote Wing.

I’ve changed. The world has changed. The way we work with each other, interact with each other, has changed a LOT.

And so, it only makes sense that this platform, this small little Slack channel, should change too.

From the start, I wanted Remote Wing to be whatever people needed it to be. In the start of COVID-19, when the world was spinning out of control, Remote Wing needed to be a place for encouragement, comfort, and community.

And right now, as I revive it, it might still need to be that.

But it also might need to be something completely new, completely different. So I’d like to let it do its thing.

So, here goes nothing. Remote Wing is now called Ripple, with a cute new logo and everything.

If you work remotely (or want to), please consider joining our free Slack community. We want to be advocates for better remote work in every sense:
