What’s More Important, Having the Child or Keeping the Guy?

I just wrote a post about a 40-year-old woman who waited six years to have kids and now has to face the reality that her partner is still not ready. After they broke up, she’s picking up the pieces and wondering how she can move forward.

I came across her story on an Esther Perel podcast on YouTube, and I couldn’t resist looking at the comments. There were plenty of nice, compassionate comments, but a good number of them went in the direction that you would expect.

People said this woman was stupid for having waited so long for a man to “make up his mind.” They emphasized that no man is worth giving anything up for, let alone a woman’s fertility. “I don’t care how in love you think you are,” one commenter wrote. “Be ready to walk away.”

“Don’t allow someone to play with your time like this.”

Another commenter wrote: “This blows my mind. How — and why — would you give away your chance of having a child to a guy? For a guy. Any guy, for that matter, but especially one who says things like, “I’m not ready” or “I don’t know.” If that’s where he’s at, then move on. Find someone who actually wants to build a future with you — not someone…
