The Render Network is built by the community and going forward we hope to provide community members a clearer look at the behind the scenes stats of Render Network to provide more detail about the network’s growth. Welcome to the first edition of Render Network’s “Behind the Network”, where we break down all of the goings on around Render Network and in the Render Network community!

Be on the lookout for more “Behind the Network” installments every week! Let us know if there is anything you would like to see covered in future editions, and without further ado:

Having recently moved on from Q1 2022, we wanted to give a peak into some of the statistical growth that the Network has experienced over the last 12 months:

  • Q1 2022 has seen a jumpstart in new Creators joining the Render Network, with nearly 300% growth in new Creators compared to Q1 2021*.
  • The expansion of artists actively using the network is a key priority. Over the coming months, in addition to growing the user base, the network is releasing tools that make it easier for artists to bring more and more of their rendering workflows onto the network, increasing the levels of activity per user, while also growing the active user base*.
  • We have seen strong growth in work performed on the network, reaching a cumulative 10M frames now rendered. 6M frames were rendered in 2021, an over 3.5X growth compared to the 1.6M rendered in 2020. Further we rendered 2.7M frames last quarter, representing an over 2.5X growth compared to Q1 2021*.
  • At GTC last year, we announced we had reached a cumulative 1M RNDR used to pay for work rendered by Node Operators on the Network since inception from 2017–2021. This past year, we have more than doubled that figure, reaching a cumulative 2.8M RNDR used in the Network*.

Increases in OctaneBench and hardware performance have also created a much more powerful network for artists, providing an exceptionally fast rendering service once scenes are uploaded to the network. With demands for AR and ultra high resolution rendering increasing, performance and concurrent capacity will become ever more important to artist workflows in 2022:

  • In the past quarter, the network reached 1.4M concurrent OctaneBench power, creating a 450% increase in peak computing power when compared to Q1 2021. The network now regularly sees >1M available Octane Bench, making The Render Network the largest on-demand GPU rendering platform in the world*.
  • The network also reached a peak of 447 concurrent nodes on a single rendering job, a roughly 2x increase to the peak concurrent nodes on a single job in Q1 2021*.
  • In Q2 2022 there were 684 nodes with 12+ GB VRAM compared to 85 nodes with 12+ GB VRAM in Q1 2021 an over 800% increase, while in Q1 2022 there were 195 nodes with 24 or more GB VRAM compared to 39 such nodes in Q1 2021, an over 400% increase*.
  • These numbers are primarily composed of early lead users and Render creators and will significantly grow as the network onboards of more powerful nodes in 2022*.

*All statistics are considered “Early Stage” given the relative youth of the Render Network, and while they are overwhelmingly positive, there is a degree of volatility in month-to-month data.

Upcoming Work

In the upcoming BTN post next week, we will be sharing more details about new technologies and NFT plans in the roadmap, as well as rendering expansion plans and introducing new team members. Make sure you have notifications turned on so you don’t miss next weeks’ post!
