Over the course of the last few weeks the Render Network Foundation has been in the process of polling the community regarding a potential change in the operations for the Network. For those who are not active in the Render Network Discord [LINK], Andrew Hyde (Head of Communications for the Render Network Foundation) posted a community sentiment poll in the leadup to the creation of RNP-002, with the intent of answering the question: “with the tokenomic shift of BME on the near horizon, is Ethereum still the foundational chain that RNDR/The Network should be built on?”

Community Polling and RNP-002

The poll was first issued on February 21st, closing on Wednesday, March 1st, and can be found here, and the Foundation’s most recent blog post delves into the chain requirements, results, and follow-up.

As a brief primer for those unaware or new to the project, the Render Network uses blockchain technology in order to provide security in both payments and infrastructure, and since its inception has been leveraging the Ethereum blockchain. Since 2017 there have been several additional changes, such as the migration to an ERC-20 token contract and the expansion onto the Layer 2 Polygon chain.

But since the project’s inception a number of new and successful projects have emerged among L1 blockchains, and with the Network undergoing large structural changes with the establishment of the Render Network Foundation and the approval of shifting to a BME tokenomics model, a major blocking question became whether Etherium was still the best suited chain for the Render Network. With that in mind, the Foundation team assessed and created a base set of requirements for any chain candidate if it was to be considered as a new Layer 1 chain for the Network:

With these requirements in mind, the poll was issued to the community, and after 228 responses in a little over a week, the following results came through:

The Foundation team will now assess the results and issue a follow-up in the coming weeks in the leadup to RNP-002.

Discord AMA with the Foundation team

In a continued effort to provide increased transparency, the Foundation team hosted its first Discord AMA on Monday, February 27th. The full transcripts from the text AMA can be viewed on the Render Network Discord within the “Community” tab under the channel name “ama-2023”. The Foundation and Render Network team’s wanted to thank all those who participated in the AMA, and highlight some of the answers from the session:

One of the most frequently asked questions among the community has been for the release of a public timeline or timeline statement regarding the project and updates to it. As Trevor-Harries Jones (OTOY COO and Member of the Foundation’s Board of Directors) stated, while

“We don’t have one currently, but can request updates from the development team, and outline in future BTN posts”

At this time the major blocking question for Network development is centered around the Layer 1 Chain, which the Foundation team directed our community towards in its poll.

Tying into the community sentiment polling detailed above, some users have been curious about the proposed Solana and Metaplex integrations for the Network that have previously been announced, prior to the formation of the Foundation.

“Jules gave an update on immersive streaming NFT’s on Metaplex at Breakpoint 2022, please see his talk. Re: Solana, nothing to date, but the development team are busy mapping out the BME integration, and a key consideration is whether this will be done on a new chain. Please see the community sentiment polling to provide your input on this.”

In line with the updates shared above and in previous metrics updates and unlock messaging, an update the the circulating supply data can be expected on CoinMarketCap and CoinGecko soon to reflect as much.

Finally, improvements to the C4D Exporter have recently been made that have shown to increase export speeds by 2–20x their current speed. This vastly reduces exporting times for a large swath of OctaneRender and Render Network users, a major friction point for all users.

Once again, the Foundation is thankful for all participants in both the RNP-002 Community Sentiment Poll and the Foundation’s first AMA. Please be on the lookout in the coming weeks for updates regarding RNP-002 and future AMA’s with the Foundation team.
