As a part of the Render Network Foundation’s mission to grow the network’s community and ecosystems, this week’s Behind the Network takes a macro look at the Foundation’s release of an updated Roadmap and Whitepaper on the Render Network Foundation’s new website.

Both the Roadmap and Whitepaper are living documents that invite community feedback from stakeholders across the Render Network ecosystem.

Roadmap Breakdown

Increased Structure and Transparency

First and foremost on the roadmap is the establishment of the roadmap as a living document to provide structure and transparency for the Foundation and network development. In line with the new community input and governance process overseen by the Foundation, the roadmap is not static, and will be updated as necessary throughout the lifecycle of the Network, incorporating community and other feedback as it goes.

Second on the list is a similar housekeeping item, setting up the Render Network Foundation site as the host of the Roadmap and other items related to the Network and its operations.

Towards Implementation of the Burn-and-Mint Equilibrium (BME)

Following the initial setup, the Render Network Foundation will be publishing its hiring plans for the 2023 year. This will include details around roles and responsibilities that are going to be sought after, alongside any additional information regarding Foundation team expansion.

Of particular importance, the Render Network Whitepaper is now updated to a working copy of version 4.0 to reflect the Network as it currently operates, alongside future implementations like the BME model adoption that passed with RNP-001. In regards to the BME model adoption, the implementation of the BME model and the Solana chain adoption are additionally listed as their own item on the Roadmap due to their significance.

New Forums and Grants Process

The final two items listed on the current Roadmap are new additions to the current ecosystem that will improve community participation.

First is a shift in platform from Discord to Discourse for RNP discussions. While Discord has been a good source for fostering community discussions within RNPs, Discourse is designed inherently for discussions like those in the RNP system, which would make user experiences easier and admin more seamless. Some of the advantages are better threading to enable complex debates with multiple contributors, badging to recognize community member’s participation, and better search, archiving and referencing tools.

Expanding out from just the RNP system, the Foundation will also be opening up a 2023 Grant Cohort, which will be in part defined by the Community itself through the network’s governance process. This will allow for community proposals and projects on the Network to be funded in part by grants from the Render Network Foundation, as per guidelines created and voted on by the Community itself.

The Grants process will initially follow a four part structure, though that is open for evolution as the needs of the community change. The initial structure will involve the following:

  • Call For Entries: The Render Network Foundation has listed a number of areas where it is looking to improve the Network and its ecosystem. As of right now those areas can be found on the Render Network website.
  • Quick Pitch: The quick pitch form is available on the Render Network Foundation website, and is where your initial proposal is made. In under 500 words, summarize your grant proposal and why it aligns with the Foundation’s core values and current needs. This form will go directly to the Foundation team for review.
  • Request for Proposal: If your quick pitch lines up with the Foundation guidelines, you will be invited to give a longer form proposal by the Foundation, expanding out on the initial pitch and outlining specifics of how a grant will facilitate your proposal and be used.
  • Allocation of Grant and Timeline: If your final proposal is accepted for a grant, a grant will be awarded alongside a discussion with the Foundation regarding expected timelines for the proposed project and how funding will factor into its development.

Foundation Website Community Showcase

One of the key additions to the new Render Network Foundation website is a gallery showcasing artwork from the Render Network Community.

The Render Network Foundation is continuing to update its showcase as part of a mission to expand and highlight the Render Network community. To that end, the Foundation is releasing a submission form for sharing works created on the Render Network for website showcases, social media posts and other public forums.
